autumn leaves

It's that time of year again.  Autumn.  I just love the colors in nature at this time of the year.  So, I made a very thick and warm hat to be worn out on these chilly mornings and evenings using the colors of this season.  The yarn is so soft, too.  Mine!!

CHUNKY TWEED

I used four different yarns to make this hat--brown, off white, light blue and a mixed color yarn.  Each yarn was very thin so I combined them to make one medium weight yarn.  Everything came together beautifully to make this soft, warm hat.  I rolled the hat to the backside (reversed the knit) so that the hat has a simple knit stitch appearance.  I'm happy with it.

TWEEDY STRIPE

This is what you get when you use up a bunch of short yarns that are left over from other projects.  I didn't realize how much of a wide stripe effect this pattern would create.  I like it.

BLUEBERRY

The colors of the yarns woven into this hat remind me of blueberries.  Three different yarns make up this color palette.  This also gives the hat some nice thickness to warm those ears this winter.

CHECKERBOARD

I think the name fits this hat rather well.  I like this design.  I used a golden yellow yarn for the chevron pattern and a combination of dark brown and blue yarns for the main body of this hat.  It's double thick and very warm.  Soft, too!!

DOUBLE MINTY

Two shades of green yarn give this hat its' cool color.  There are four layers of yarn knit into this hat so it will make a nice warm covering for any head on an even cooler day this winter.

CLASSIC BROWN

I used very earthy colors in this hat.  There are two shades of brown yarns mixed with an off white yarn and they come together in a very natural neutral way.  Some of the yarns are thicker than others and that adds to the warmth of the hat.  It has a soft feel which I think the ears will appreciate.

GRAY DAY

This hat is super thick and will be a very warm hat to wear this winter.  It is knit from a charcoal gray yarn that is very soft and thick enough to use one layer of yarn at a time.  Someone's ears are going to be toasty when cold weather approaches.

ROSY

I had enough of this pretty rose colored yarn to make a hat and scarf set.  I mixed the rosy colored yarn with cranberry colored yarn to get a tweedy knit for the hat.  I made the scarf out of solid rose colored yarn.  Both yarns are very soft to touch.  How lovely!

FIRE IT UP

Feel the warmth coming from this fiery red knit hat!!  Four layers of yarn give this hat the thickness it needs to keep the ears warm on a cold day.  Add in a big dose of bright color to keep the wearer in a happy mood on that very same cold day and you have a real winner!  Nice combo!

VERY BROWN

Wow, this hat looks very dark.  I mixed solid brown yarn with darker variegated yarn and this is how it turned out.  Very dark.  It is also very warm.  Great hat for cool weather.

PERFECTLY PINKY-ISH

This hat turned out to be a very soft knit hat.  I combined a lovely light pink yarn with a fluffy multicolored cranberry/grey/rose yarn in order to achieve this combination.  It's very pretty.

TWEED RAINBOW

O.K., here we go.  I used variegated multicolored yarn mixed with an off white yarn in order to come up with this tweedy looking hat.  It has four layers of warmth knitted into it and it is so soft.  What an explosion of  rainbow colors just waiting to be worn on a crisp Autumn day (or night).

pwup-pwup

My youngest son used to call the color purple pwup-pwup when he was a very little boy.  Awwwww.  This purple hat is knit from very thick yarn so only two layers of knit makes this hat a very heavy (and, hopefully, warm) hat.  Someones little noggin is going to be warm and cozy this winter.

BABY BLUES

Knitting warm hats during the hot summer seems somewhat odd, but that is how I catch up on my stockpile of hats that I give away each Fall/Winter.  This hat is knit from a very light pastel blue yarn mixed with an off white yarn.  The two tones give it dimension and, quite frankly, just look pretty together.  (breaks up the monotony, really)

LEMON DROP

This a very pale yellow knit hat with a thick band to protect the ears from the cold wind.  It's a little bit of pastel Spring color just meant to cheer up a dark winter day.

ROSY STRIPES

Now this is a really soft knit hat.  I made this hat using mohair yarn.  I hadn't worked with mohair yarn before and because it is a thinner yarn, I added a soft burgundy colored yarn to it to give it more thickness.  The outcome of the double knit treatment is a very thick, soft hat that will provide lots of warmth for the chilly weather ahead.

BURGUNDY SWIRLS

I really like the colors in this hat.  I combined a variegated yarn with a solid burgundy colored yarn and came up with this.  The burgundy yarn contrasted with the white, blue and brown sections of the variegated yarn and blended right in with the wine ciolored section.  I think this combination is strengthened by the two yarns mixed together.  The extra yarns also added to the thickness and the overall warmth of this winter hat.

A PILE OF SCARVES

I have been making scarves to go with the hats that I have been knitting recently.  Each hat will have a warm scarf rolled up and stuffed inside the hat.  Here are four of my latest creations.

WORLD TRAVELLER

This is just a funny name for a hat perched on top of a little world's globe.  How cute is that?  The hat was knit from two strands of yarn with one strand being very soft and fluffy.  It is a very thick knit hat and will surely keep a young someone's head warm later this year.  Travel on!!

PASTEL SWIRLS

Isn't this a lovely pastel colored hat?  Why, yes it is.  Thank you very much for asking.  It is also a very warm hat because it is double knit with an extra white yarn woven in for a tweedy look.  I think some small child will look just adorable wearing this hat in cold weather.  The colors say Spring, the thickness says Winter.

WILD RICE

The colors in this hat remind me of cooked wild rice.  I made this hat with four layers of yarn so it is very thick and will stand up to a cold winter wind.  I know it is Spring now, but winter will come again before you know it.  Someone's head will appreciate this hat.  I guarantee.

NATURE TRAIL

I can picture wearing this hat and scarf set while taking a stroll along a woodsy path in autumn.  I can dream, can't I?  Both the hat and the scarf are double knit so they offer a lot of warmth for the wearer.  I think it's the mix of colors that make me think of the woods.  Let's get out those hiking boots and go!  Come on.

THE WHOLE BUNCH

I made seven hats to give to the AHA for February Heart Awareness month.  The hats will be distributed in maternity wards during the month of February.  I believe I will send these to a hospital in Northern Minnesota.  Hopefully a sweet little baby will keep their head warm with one of these hats...knit with love.

CHECKERBOARD SQUARE

Another baby hat to go.  This hat is so thick and warm I think it needs to go north for the winter.

RED STRIPES

Another warm little hat for a baby...it's winter, you know.  Two shades of very soft red yarn gives this hat all the classic stripe it needs.  p.s.  Who's peeking out from behind the purse?

TWO TONE

Here we go...another hat for the AHA heart awareness campaign.  Warm head, happy heart.

ORANGE YOU CUTE?

Wow, this yarn is very soft.  The orange color of the yarn was toned down a bit with a multi-colored variegated yarn and the end result is not only pleasing color wise but it is also nice and thick weight wise.  All in all it's a very cute hat.

LITTLE RED

Another baby hat for heart health month.  5" high by 14" wide.  Fits a newborns head.  So soft.

TED

This hat has a nice mix of colors.  The dark green yarn needed some additional color to spice things up a bit.  The extra yarn added warmth, as well.  I like this variegated color mix.  Nice hat.

PURPLE PASSION

Here's a very snugly warm knit hat with a roll brim.  I used very thick purple yarn to make this beauty and because the yarn is so thick, it only took a single layer of yarn to create this thick hat.  ahhhh

AHA

It's time to make some baby sized hats.  The AMA is asking for knitted baby hats so that they may be distributed to hospitals throughout the USA during Heart Health month in February.  I am going to try to knit a dozen or so for this great cause.  More to come.

POPPA COLOR

Gold colored knit hat topped with a twist of purple.....solid!  Extra warmth due to its' double-knitiness.....yes!  Wonder what's in the cookie jar hiding in the corner.....out of reach.  ðŸ˜•
