the NIGHT

Two yarns knit together make up this heavyweight hat.  This time I used the medium blue yarn (the same yarn I used to make the BLUE FLECK a few days ago) and mixed it with black yarn.  By toning the blue yarn down with the black yarn, the hat takes on a completely different look.  Hmmm...looks like someone's hungry.  Where's the food?

the VELMA

Lots of beads decorate the brim of this hat.  Colorful and fun!!  It's knit from soft, medium weight yarns and is just perfect for the upcoming Spring weather.  H.B to Velma!!!

the MINTY FRESH

Green and white color combinations always look particularly fresh and clean to me.  The white looks pure and the green reminds me of mouth wash.  hehehe  The colors in this soft, lightweight knit hat...and a day at the beach... go well together and feel so-o-o good!

the BIRTHDAY CAKE

To me, this hat looks like a birthday cake.  It has the shape of a layer cake and the pink and white yarns look like frosting.  There is an explosion of "coconut" on top (yum, my favorite).  hahaha... it's just a hat, really.  And a warm one at that.  Four layers of yarn cover the ears.  Sweet and snugly.

the BEACH HAT

ha,ha,ha  This is the January version of what to wear on your head at the beach in January.  Even in Florida, it can get quite chilly in winter.  White yarn mixed with peach and lime green yarns give this hat a pretty pastel color combo.  Thinking about a dip in the ocean?  The water is quite chilly, too!

the BLUE SKY

Two shades of blue yarns knit in alternate rows create this horizontal stripe hat with a roll brim.  Perfect for a chilly morning.  Whoa, what just flew by?

the BLUE FLECK

This beautiful blue hat has little flecks of color added to the yarn.  It is very soft and just warm enough for a cool morning or a day at sea.  Land Ho, mate-y!

the GREENIE BEANIE

I really like this hat.  It is soft and warm and it has a very simple style. This mid weight hat is perfect for wearing in the spring or fall.  I turned the hat inside out so that the back side of the knit shows.  This helps to bring out the colors found in the brim.  Ready for a hike, anyone?

the JOAN

Just lounging by the pool.  The brim is made from two pinkish yarns with beads added in for fun.  The crown is made from three yarns with the addition of a medium blue yarn.  Several beads are added to the tassel for decoration.  Just lovely.  And, so is Joan.  H.B. to you.

the WOODSY

This is just a very simple roll brim hat.  I mixed brown and green yarns together to achieve a middleweight hat with clean lines.  The color combinations remind me of a tree... outdoorsy and rugged, yet soft and cozy.  A natural!

the SUNDAE

The color combination of this hat reminds me of a scoop of peppermint stick ice cream sitting in a bowl of chocolate sauce with a cherry on top.  yum-m-m-m-m!!

the TWEEDY

I think this hat has a tweed-like appearance, thus the name.  I've always liked tweed woolens.  That may be because I grew up in the North where winters are long and cold.  Tweed skirts were my favorite.  But, tweed hats are nice, too.  Is that a museum I see across the street?  Tweed, art, museums...go together, don't they?  Let's go.

the HEAVY DUTY

This is a winter weight hat made by knitting three yarns together--two brown and one lavender.  It is tightly knit and should protect those ears from the windy weather.  Is that my friend Chuck E. in the background?  I believe it is.  hmmm...may need to pay him a visit.

the CHILLY STRIPE

Just a fun striped hat!  Double layers of medium weight yarn will keep the head warm on a chilly day.  Soft, yet rugged and ready for play.

the CHRISTY

This soft hat is made by using five very fine yarns knit together to give the thickness of one medium weight yarn.  The variegated look comes from combining the heather tones of ruby, cranberry, charcoal, brown and mocha yarns.  The name...well that's a mash up of the names of two wonderful people who are celebrating their anniversary today...and many years to come!

the FREEDOM

Patriotic colors of red, white and blue are the foundation for this lightweight, yet warm, knit hat.  Raise that flag!  Enjoy your freedom!

the JANE MARIE

This is a very soft lightweight hat made from two baby weight yarns in peach and aqua.  These are the favorite (and most beautiful) colors to wear by my dear friend Jane Marie.  A true Southern lady, she always knows how to dress for the occasion and always entertains with class and a good dose of family history on the side.  Here's to you, Jane Marie.

the JEANIE BEANIE

Yipes stripes!  It's my birthday.  I finally figured out how to knit vertical stripes.  I combined two of my favorite colors--dark green and dark red.  This is a very nice warm hat to wear while hiking along  the silver comet trail on a chilly overcast morning.  Happy Birthday to me.

the CONFETTI

Ready for a party?  Solid black yarn mixed with pastel variegated yarn give this hat the color explosion needed for the festive event.  It's snugly warm for the outdoor festivities and ready to brighten up the day, even when it's overcast outside.  Makes me happy.

the ROBIN'S EGG

The blue color of a robin's egg inspired the name for this hat.  The little pink figurine girl thinks this hat is just perfect with it's pastel-y color scheme.  Looks like sci-fi antennas poking through the hat.  I wonder how good the reception is today.

the SUNSHINE

Fit for someone's little sunshine, this hat is very soft and loosely knit.  There is just a single layer of yarn used in the making of this hat, just enough to keep that sweet little ray of sunshine warm. It's snoozy time.

the DESERT ROSE

Two different yarns--mauve and peach--knit together create this variegated colored hat.  I turned this hat inside out for a different stitch style.  The layers are doubled for extra warmth.  What do you say?

the SAGE

This is a lightweight knit hat perfect for warding of the chill of a cool morning.  It has a double layer of yarn without the extra cuff.  Hmm...it looks like that bird is interested in the hat, too.  Maybe it would make a nice soft nest for the family.

the BILLY

This hat is ready for outdoor play.  The cuff is doubled for extra warmth and the combined yarns in the crown keep out the cold wind.  Have fun at the playground!

the BABYKINS

Just a sweet little hat for a sweet little newborn.  The yellow, white and aqua colored variegated yarn is lightweight and very soft.  Sleep tight, sweet baby.  Stay warm.

the SPECKLES

This knit hat has tiny bits of white, rosy pink and green yarns woven into the blue yarn.  Together they create a multi colored speckled look.  The yarn is very soft and the hat is double layered.  No need for a cuff or tassel.  This hat offers a smooth and snug fit on the noggin.  So comfy!  mmmmm

the GOLDIE

This hat reminds me of autumn.  The golden yarns mixed with a very fine light brown yarn makes me think of the color of the leaves just before they fall.  Enjoy the colors.

the EARWARMER

This hat stands on its own.  Literally.  I used two strands of yarn per stitch creating a tweedy look.  The cuff of the hat is doubled and the four yarns comprising the cuff give it the necessary bulk to ward off the wind and cold and keep those ears snugly warm.  It's so thick it "stands up to the cold".  hahaha  So, I wonder what's cookin' on this grill.  Nothing.  The grill is cold.  hmmm...maybe it needs a hat.

the WILLIAM

Properly spaced stripes for a properly perfect little boy.  The red and white yarns are 100% acrylic and the black yarn is a mix of acrylic and wool.  This deceivingly rugged hat is topped with a pom pom and ready for cold weather. Oh, wait, is that a swimming pool in the background?  I guess it is.

the BNY

BNY is short for baby new year.  This little hat is made from very soft acrylic yarn and is hand washable (gently, of course).  The yarns are bits and pieces left over from other projects and that is what gives this hat a variegated look.  The new year rings in as a fresh start, just like a new baby.  Bits and pieces left over from the year just past are knit into something new.  A rebirth, of sorts.  Snuggle down, baby dear, in your rocking chair.   Snuggle down.

the GOPHER

Maroon and gold is the color choice for today.  Why, you ask?  These are the school colors of the University of Minnesota, that's why.  In honor of their appearance in the New Year's Day Citrus Bowl game in Orlando, Florida, this hat was created using 100% acrylic worsted yarn.  Go Gophers!!!

today I begin

I am starting a year long project today.  I am going to knit a new hat every day this year and at the end of the year I will give away all 365 hats.  I am not a knitter in the traditional way.  I never could master the two knitting needle method and therefore all the hats I make are very simple.  I use circular looms and a knit hook.  The large eye needle is used in the finishing process.  There is no purl stitch involved.  Therefore the hats are all very uniform and could be rather boring.  That is where the creativity comes into play.  Mixing colors, adding beads, double knitting yarns vary the look.  The best part is the naming rights.  Ah, yes!  There are only a few times in life when we are given naming rights (kids, pets).  So, I will name them as I go.  Okay, enough talk.  I need to get busy.
